Beginning with the Fujitsu VPP500\/40 installed in 1995, the computers at ISSP have been updated roughly every 5 years. The SGI ICE XA (System B), introduced in July 2013, is currently in operation as the fifth generation. Two types of computers have been available since 2000: System A, which mainly performs vector calculations; and System B, which performs massively parallel scalar calculations.
