Joint Usage Application Process

0. Application flow

1. Registration as a Project Leader

Once the research group’s Principal Investigator registers on the “Supercomputer Joint Usage Web System” page, an email is sent to confirm successful registration and an ID and password are provided to enable an application to use the supercomputer to be submitted.

(Supplement 1) Research Group, Project Leader

A research group consists of one Principal Investigator and multiple collaborators. Resources at the Supercomputer Center are allocated to the research group rather than to individuals. Please click here for more details.

(Supplement 2) Supercomputer Joint Usage Web System

This page allows you to apply to use the supercomputer, check your application status, and manage collaborators (=members of your research group).

2. Project Application (provisional application, final application)

Log on via the “Login Screen” on the “Supercomputer Joint Usage Web System” page and submit a project application. For details on the application procedure and supercomputer account management for collaborators, please refer to the above page.

(1) Provisional application

Enter the name of the research project, names of collaborators, application class, and number of points requested.

(2) Main application

Using the application template (tex, word) sent via email following the completion of the provisional application, provide details of the research for which you are making the application and upload the PDF file.

3. Project Review

The Supercomputer Joint Usage Proposal Committee reviews the content of the application and considers whether the project involves research in condensed matter science, whether an appropriate amount of computational resources have been requested, and so on. Please wait until you receive the results of the review via email.

  • For regularly scheduled application classes (B, C, E, and S)
notifications regarding acceptance/rejection and computational resource allotments are sent out in late March for first term applications (December), and in late September for second term applications (June).
  • For classes A and D, which can be applied for at any time,
you are notified regarding acceptance/rejection and computational resource allotments within approximately two weeks to one month.

First time applicants receive their account login details for the supercomputer system when the usage period begins.

4. Collaborator account application and management

Project Leaders can apply for and manage supercomputer system accounts for collaborators from the “Supercomputer Joint Usage Web System”. After completing the application for a supercomputer account, account details are delivered to the Project Leader and collaborators by e-mail.
