Application and Usage Eligibility
Research project applications are submitted by research groups consisting of a “Project Leader” and “Collaborators,” and computational resources will be allocated to projects after approval.
- Eligible applicants (Project Leader):
Faculty, researchers, and employees of similar rank at national/public universities, private universities, and national and public research institutes (hereinafter referred to as “universities, etc.”), as well as persons engaged in research related to condensed matter science. Graduate students, etc., are not eligible to apply.
- Qualified users (Project Leaders, Collaborators)
Those who are eligible to apply for use, as well as graduate students who conduct research under the guidance of university faculty, etc., are eligible to use the system as project collaborators. (Undergraduate students are not allowed to use the system.)
*As a general rule, those who are not residents of Japan cannot use the system. Please see the Terms of Use for details.
Usage Fees
As a general rule, we do not collect usage fees for use of the system. System users can execute programs and utilize disk storage by spending the points allotted when their project is approved.

Terms of Use
Please ensure that you read the Terms of Use before using the system.
Trial use
Those interested in trial use of the ISSP supercomputers should consider applying for Supercomputer Joint Research Class A and may submit their application online at any time.
Applicants will be notified regarding the acceptance of their project and the amount of compute resources assigned to it within 2 weeks to 1 month.
Please click here for details on how to apply.
Submitting research activity reports and lists of published papers, etc.
After your usage period has ended, please submit an activity report detailing your research results and a list of published papers. Activity reports received from all users will be published together in the “ISSP Supercomputer Activity Report” (English), which is issued once a year along with operation statistics, etc.
For details on how to submit a report, click here
Acknowledgment for joint use of supercomputers
Please include an acknowledgement indicating that “research results were obtained by using ISSP supercomputers” in your published papers.
*Examples of acknowledgment:
Ex.1) The authors thank the Supercomputer Center, the Institute for Solid State Physics, the University of Tokyo for the use of the facilities.
Ex.2) The computation in this work has been done using the facilities of the Supercomputer Center, the Institute for Solid State Physics, the University of Tokyo.
Activity Report Workshop
Once a year, an Activity Report Workshop is held by the users of the supercomputers joint research program.
How to apply
Usage quotas for nationwide joint research on the Center’s supercomputers are divided into classes (A, B, C, D, E, and S) according to the length of the usage period and the total usage amount.
This is a special application category for the purpose of promoting large-scale projects whose main theme is computational materials science.
